Camilo's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: No Comment

Who WILL Win: AMELIE.

Joe's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: NO MAN'S LAND .

Who WILL Win: AMELIE.

Ryan's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: AMELIE .

Who WILL Win: AMELIE. If a foreign film does well with American audiences, then it is essentially a lock for a foreign film oscar.

WRITING (ADAPTED)
A BEAUTIFUL MIND

GHOST WORLD

IN THE BEDROOM

LORD OF THE RINGS

SHREK

Camilo's Picks:

The only one of the nominees I did not see is Shrek, believe it or not! I don't feel it is a serious contender for this award though although it could pull a surprise here.
Who SHOULD WIN: A Beautiful Mind.

Who WILL Win: A Beautiful Mind.

Joe's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: Ghost World.

Who WILL Win: In the Bedroom.

Ryan's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: Lord of the Rings.

Who WILL Win: Lord of the Rings.

WRITING (ORIGINAL)
AMELIE

GOSFORD PARK

MEMENTO

MONSTER'S BALL

THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS

Camilo's Picks:

I have not seen any of these movies except Monster's Ball and Memento. I still feel strongly that I can make my pick.
Who SHOULD WIN: MEMENTO.This movie deserved far more recognition than just this nomination. One of the most freshest and interestingly writtens stories in years, this is the true achievement in writing for the 2001 nomination year.

Who WILL Win: GOSFORD PARK. This will be the award that this film wins. It also won the Writer's Guild award and I think the Oscar will follow.

Joe's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: MEMENTO.

Who WILL Win: MONSTER'S BALL.

Ryan's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: MEMENTO.

Who WILL Win: MEMENTO. This was by far the most original screenplay of the year, and easily puts some of the other nominees, (ie: Gosford Park), to shame.

DIRECTING

"A Beautiful Mind" (Universal and DreamWorks) Ron Howard

"Black Hawk Down" (Sony Pictures Releasing) Ridley Scott

"Gosford Park" (USA Films) Robert Altman

"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" Peter Jackson (New Line)

"Mulholland Drive" (Universal and StudioCanal) David Lynch

Camilo's Picks:

Arguably, this award should go to Baz Luhrman for re-creating the musical in such a dynamic way with Moulin Rouge, but since he is not nominated, I will have to make some guesses.
Who SHOULD WIN: Ridley Scott - Blackhawk Down. This film is incredibly directed, the delivery is quite an achievement and it is clearly the most deserving of the award amongst the nominees.

Who WILL Win: Ron Howard - A Beautiful Mind. Despite Robert Altman winning the Oscar, you have to keep in mind that he wasn't even nominated for a Director's Guild Award, which Ron Howard won. I think we will have Ron Howard finally see his Best Director Oscar.

Joe's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN: David Lynch-Mullholland Drive .

Who WILL Win: Ron Howard-A Beautiful Mind .

Ryan's Picks:

Who SHOULD WIN:Ridley Scott - Blackhawk Down.

Who WILL Win: Ridley Scott - Blackhawk Down .
