SEPTEMBER FILMS 2002

A specific look at 5 September films by Joe Rickey

The Five Films Released in September that I'm Looking Forward to: Organized by release date.

1.City by the Sea-September 6th

Why I'm looking forward to it: Seasoned actors Robert De Niro and Frances McDormand star with young up and comers James Franco (Spider-Man) and Eliza Dushku (The New Guy) in a crime drama in which Franco is accused of murder and De Niro is put on the case to find him. The twist is that Franco is De Niro's son. That twist might be enough to differentiate the film from all the other crime dramas released every year. The trailer seems to point to this film being a thought-provoking morality play much like Insomnia earlier this year.

2.The Transporter-September 13th

Why I'm looking forward to it: The trailer doesn't tell one much about the plot of the film but what I can tell you is that Jason Stratham (Snatch) stars in what looks like a fun action film in which a lot of stuff gets blown up and people get killed. In September, that might be enough to make The Transporter a fun experience.

3.Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever-September 20th

Why I'm looking forward to it: Antonio Banderas is a secret agent for an unspecified organization who must face off against fellow operative Lucy Liu in what looks like a fun spy action film with a top-notch cast. My only reservation is that the film will not have much of a plot and will devolve into a mindless one on one fight for most of the duration.

4.Trapped-September 20th

Why I'm looking forward to it: Kevin Bacon and a gang of fellow criminals kidnap Charlize Theron's young daughter in this suspense film. Any film in which Kevin Bacon plays a nutcase is usually fun unless it's titled Hollow Man and the trailer for this film looks to fulfill that quota.

5.The Tuxedo-September 27th

Why I'm looking forward to it: Cab driver Jackie Chan gets hold of a powerful tuxedo that makes him able to do unbelievable stunts. Jennifer Love Hewitt stars along with Chan in what looks like a good mix of comedy and effects filled action. We can only hope that the film being delayed from the summer is so that the effects could be refined and isn't because the film is horrible.

Rating Scale:
90-100: Run to it,youre dead or a jealous aspiring screenwriter if you don't like it! Okay to pay full price! (Excellent= A)
80-90: Good, but not a classic. If you like this genre, you will like the film. If you're not sure that you like these kind of movies, a matinee would be a safer bet.(Good = B)
70-80: There are redeeming factors to this movie, and it has high points and low points. Worth a matinee depending on how close to 80 the rating is, a video rental if closer to 70. Nothing real special about it. (Fair = C)
60-70: Barely passing! Only slightly entertaining, not worth paying for at the movie theater. Rent it if you like this type of film otherwise stay away! (Poor = D)
50-60: Don't even rent this! Unless you like BAD movies. (Failure = F)
0-50: Run from it! Boycott the video store that would carry it! This is HORRIBLE, how did it get made?
