Big Fat Liar is a sometimes-enjoyable kids film about a 14-year-old boy named Jason (Frankie Muniz) who travels to Hollywood with his friend Kaylee (Amanda Bynes) to prove that a powerful but struggling producer stole his school essay and turned it into a big budget film. The principle idea of Big Fat Liar bears some semblance to the old "Boy who cried wolf" tale that most of us know. The fact that Jason has already told many lies makes it hard for anyone else to believe his plight. Hence, he has to take the initiative and travel to Hollywood with his female friend to get his revenge.
The film is filled with some very amusing situations and lines. The film even includes some jokes for parents who take their kids to the show. This film is the first such film that I have seen since Shrek. The acting is above average for a kid's film. Frankie Muniz is a very talented child actor. Amanda Bynes isn't as impressive but still holds her own with the other child star. Paul Giamatti as the executive in question is quite hilarious and engaging.

The few problems that I had with Big Fat Liar include the fact that the whole film is not very realistic. There's no way Muniz's character could really get the money and go out to Hollywood to seek his revenge. Also, the many supporting characters are underwritten and generally underdeveloped which is disappointing.
Overall though, Big Fat Liar is a humorous take on an old tale with good lead performances and numerous comical situations. A surprisingly well-done kid flick.
